We started Just Hope on the 22 April 2013 after a young Christian woman become disturbed about the poor and hungry in our city. She approached us with what she was prepared to do. At the same time a local businessman contacted us with a commitment to fund a soup kitchen. We formed a team around these two people and Just Hope was born.
Every Monday night people come together to feed about 200 people and every Thursday after school a team of people feed between 20 and 50 children. Over the last 4 years we have given out over 40,000 meals to hungry people in our city, many of whom are children.
Our community meal helps bring the community together. It is a community response to a community problem and it gives people an opportunity to give back to their community, fostering a sense of whanaungatanga and manaakitanga. Each week we also give away a basket of food that has been donated by Crossroads Church to a lucky person.
Doors open Monday 5:30pm and dinner is served at 6pm.
